Jordan starts his physio programme

News 1 Comment »

Jordan is doing well and has started his physio programme.  Has stood up a few times with the parallel bars.  His chest is improving and we took him to the cafe for cooked breakfast this morning!  They may let Jordan home for the weekend then back Monday to have his stiches out.  They are doing the cast for his prosthetic leg next Friday then fitting the following Tuesday and Thursday.  All is going well and Jordan is proving to be as tough as ever! He has no regrets at all about the surgery and is already talking about having the other leg done!

Thanks to everyone for their messages, cards, presents and visits.

Jordan’s recovering well

News 1 Comment »

Jordan is now back on the ward and doing very well.  Sat out in his wheelchair today and did quite a few exercises with the physiotherapist Emily.  He also stood up on crutches for a few seconds with his other physio Sheila.  He is getting phantom pains and his chest still needs to clear but overall he is doing remarkably well.  In a side room for now as his white blood cell count has gone quite low.

Thanks as ever for all your messages and cards.

An update on Jordan

News No Comments »

After feeing poorly and a CT scan at midnight, Jordan was taken to intensive care on Wednesday night with a suspected pulmonary embolism – this was probably the worst few hours of my life.  Luckily (!) he just has a collapsed lung and chest infection which is now responding well to treatment and we are hoping he will go back to the ward tomorrow.

The actual operation has gone well and the plaster cast came off his stump today, is  healing so well and has been nicknamed by Jordan as “Forest” – (as in Forest Gump/Stump!). Jordan is moving it about with confidence.  he has had the phantom feelings of his whole leg as we were told to expect and thinks it is quite “cool” to “kick” with the leg that isnt there anymore!

Jordan is coping amazingly well.

Thanks to everyone who has sent cards – it means so much to Jordan and to us, we have had such tremendous support.

Thank you

Tracey and Dean

Surgery update

A message from Tracey and Dean:

“Jordan had his surgery and all went well with no airway problem and no tracheostomy needed. Jordan came out of intensive care yesterday and is doing well. He is still quite uncomfortable but the doctors are doing their best to keep it under control. The loss of his right leg is quite a shock but it is early days yet. Thanks to everyone for their cards, presents and texts”

Jordan update

Dear family and friends

Many of you have asked to be kept informed so here goes…….

Just to let you know that following Jordan’s admission to Royal National Orthopaedic hospital in Stanmore last week, he has decided he wants to go ahead with the amputation of his right leg (above the knee).  In the event that he needs a tracheostomy (not a high possibility) he will have the option of having his left foot removed during the same hospital admission. This is because subsequent surgeries will carry a higher risk.

This has not been a quick or easy decision for Jordan (or us as a family) and he is still very scared (mostly about making it through the surgery).  Thank you to all the support we have had so far, I have a feeling lots more will be needed!  His surgery is planned for 7th September.

He will probably be in hospital for 2 weeks initially (depending on how much he has done, could be longer) then come come for about 3 weeks for healing.  His rehab when he goes back to hospital could take 2 to 3 months (or longer).  It is not guaranteed that he will be able to wear a prosthetic limb but that is Jordan’s hope. He is going in to this knowing all the risks as well as worst and best case scenarios.

Please keep Jordan in your thoughts and prayers.  Thank you

Tracey, Dean and Kai

Sue Rowlands lends further support

Hello Tracey

Just a quick message to say that on Friday 3rd October I had an open day at my house, selling cakes, cards, mobile phone charms etc. I also had a raffle, which has been drawn, and I am about to deliver the prizes to the winners. I am very lucky to have such great support from my sister and all my great friends. In total I have raised £300.

Since then I have had requests for my cakes so will be busy making them. I have also had the offer to put cards in local hairdressers who will display them on the counter; all proceeds will of course go to PSF.

Hope you are all well especially Jordan.

Love Sue x

Norma Lodge

We received £710 from Norma Lodge, thanks to a work colleague of mine Pete Richards, who nominated our charity.

Sarah Selwood and Donna Padmore – Keyline brands

These ladies raised an amazing £2031.70!

Hi Tracey

The evening went really well, we had approx 90 people attend and raised £2031.70 this includes the £481.70 coming directly from Unilever. We had some fantastic auction prizes which included the New I Pod Touch donated by my company, which raised £200 in the auction, other auction prizes included a friend Donna Padmore who is a Beauty Therapist, she auctioned herself for a Champagne Pamper Day for 4 friends, this raised £145. My hair salon in Weybridge donated a full colour cut & blow-dry, this raised £90. Donna, who organised the party with me, got loads of local companies to donate meals, champagne etc for the raffle, which was so successful. The strangest auction was a last minute entry – Donna’s husband is a taxi driver and the morning of the party he picked up the guy that used to play CatWeezle and got his autograph a friend of ours, Mark Jones, bid £25 for it, think he was under the influence of alcohol!!

Love to the family

Ian Barnet and Live in the Valley – the Big Fat Beulah Bash

I was approached by Ian who supports young bands and singers in the local area as part of an organisation called “Live in the Valley”.  They performed a charity gig at a local Baptist church raising money for Cancer research and PSF UK (in honour of Jordan).  Artists line up was as follows:
Frequency, Vicky Bass, Friday Club, Temba Dawn, the Arcadian, Some People, Exus and Offhand.

The event was held on 29 March and we went along with our boys and family.  They raised £238 for PSF UK and a good time was had by all!

Bexhill High School

Jeanette Pollitt who organised the activities wrote the following for the local paper:

Year 8 students at Bexhill High, based at the Gunters lane site, worked hard to raise £400 for the charity Proteus Syndrome Foundation UK. The group currently helps over 50 families in the U.K and Europe.
Proteus Syndrome is a condition that involves atypical growth of the bones, skin, and head. It is a very rare, variable and progressive condition, affecting more males than females.

As part of their Enterprise curriculum, the 60 students devised and carried out a number of business / money-spinning a activities in order to support this charity, one very close to their hearts, as a fellow Year 8 student, Jordan Whitewood –Neal, is a sufferer of this rare genetic disorder.

The students worked in small teams to design, advertise and run their ventures which included washing cars, cake and tuck sales, games sessions, and even a very popular chocolate fruit fountain!

Jordan and his parents were invited to receive the cheque from Mrs Jeanette Pollitt and the students in a special assembly.  Mrs Tracey Whitewood-Neal, chairperson, was most impressed with their efforts and offered her congratulations and appreciation on behalf of the Foundation.
