Jordan rehab update

News 6 Comments »

Jordan has now been discharged from rehab at RNOH and will be getting used to his “stubbies” or “little legs” over the next few weeks.  Once he has mastered them he can have legs with knees and feet. He has already managed to play football, climb stairs, walk a slope and play Wii fit!  Jordan has also been using weights at the gym to improve his upper body strength.

Huge thanks to everyone at RNOH especially Jennifer his physiotherapist and Emma his prosthetic technician!

Also all the doctors, nurses, teachers and play specialists!

We are back to RNOH on 16 April 2010 to get his stubbies finished off and then maybe back in the summer to get walking with longer legs. Those shoes are going to have to wait a while longer Jordan!

Jordan started his rehab on Monday and is already walking around with a frame on his “stubbies”.  He can get himself on the floor and back up again.  He went to the weight training gym today too.  The infection in his wound is starting to get better with a second lot of antibiotics.

Jordan had his fitting on Friday (12/03) for his new prosthetic legs – these are just really short ones to start off with so he can learn to balance.  The fitting went really well despite an infection in Jordan’s wound.  He managed to walk along the parallel bars and wanted to do more!  He was really tired afterwards and his arms really hurt.  We are back at the RNOH from Monday 15th March for approx 3 weeks and I will try and get some photos for you all soon!

His rehab is due to start 15th March 2010. He is really glad he had the other leg amputated and is eager to get going! Thanks to everyone for their cards, texts etc

Jordans second surgery

News 6 Comments »

Jordan had his operation Monday afternoon (1 Feb) and spent a day and a half in ITU.  The operation went well with adjustments to “Forest” and amputation of the left leg above the knee. The surgeon was pleased with the outcome. Jordan has not had the same chest problems this time which is good news. Now that Jordan’s pain is under control, he is doing really well and is sitting up today eating and reading and even doing some maths with the school teacher! The plaster will come off tomorrow and physio will start in the next couple of days.  Love Dean and Tracey

Jordan has quickly progressed from walking frame to crutches this week and is doing better than anyone imagined.  Still having physio twice a day and using the exercise ball and sometimes the Wii machine.  He still gets phantom pains late at night which mean he can’t get to sleep so we have asked to see the specialist pain nurse today.

Rehab: Week 3

News No Comments »

Week 3 of rehab is going really well for Jordan.  He has his new prosthetic leg now which he is finding much more comfortable and easier to get on.  His new leg has a knee joint and he used it to sit down in a normal chair today. Jordan is having physio twice a day and he is trying to fit in his school work too.  Thanks to everyone for their support, especially family and friends!

Jordan starts rehab

News 3 Comments »

Jordan was admitted back to RNOH this week to begin his rehab programme.  He had the first fitting of his prosthetic leg yesterday and managed to tolerate the “socket” and stood on the leg.  He even managed a couple of steps.  The next few weeks are about getting him stronger, getting the fit of the leg right and getting him standing for longer periods of time.  He is trying to get his school work done in between physio sessions and my mum and I have been helping with with an art project – looking around the grounds for things for him to draw and paint (still life).  My mum has made some proper “eyes” for “Forrest” and this has made the nurses and physios laugh!
The staff at the Royal National Orthopaedic hospital have been fantastic – very helpful and supportive and I would like to thank them all – the doctors, nurses, physios, teachers, play specialists and everyone involved in Jordan’s care.
Pictures of “Forrest” to follow soon!
